Simone Luchetti is an Italian photographer whose work moves at the intersection of intimacy, aesthetics, and social awareness. Through a predominantly autobiographical lens, he explores the human body — especially the female body — not as an object, but as a living, acting presence. His images seek to liberate the body from cultural constraints, reclaiming its expressive power and rejecting traditional objectification.
Working primarily with large-format cameras and Polaroid film, Luchetti embraces the slowness and materiality of analog photography. This deliberate process becomes part of his narrative, inviting the viewer into a space where vulnerability and dignity coexist.
His work reflects a poetic inquiry into the body as a bearer of memory and meaning, and as a space of resistance — where gender, identity, and presence are negotiated beyond appearances.
Simone Luchetti's first contact with photography was in his father’s darkroom — a gifted amateur and one of Mario Giacomelli's preferred printers. He grew up watching Giacomelli’s images emerge from chemical baths, absorbing the poetic harshness and surreal realism of that visual world. This early exposure shaped both his technical foundation and his aesthetic sensibility.
He built a comprehensive technical skillset over the years, mastering analog processes and photographic equipment. However, a pivotal shift came when he moved toward authorial photography — a decision driven by the need to prioritize narrative over precision. In this phase, he learned to embrace imperfection and rethink the image as a space for emotional and conceptual storytelling.
His artistic re-education was guided by mentor and photographer Efrem Raimondi, under whom he deepened his understanding of photographic language, especially in the context of portraiture — lessons that now inform all aspects of his practice.
Deeply passionate about writing, Luchetti often pairs text with image, creating layered works where words and photographs speak to each other in quiet, resonant dialogue.
Simone Luchetti’s photographic work has been exhibited in both collective and solo contexts, often in dialogue with editorial and curatorial projects. His authorial series Worn On debuted in 2018 as part of Primavera Fotografica in Ostra (Italy), and was later the subject of a solo exhibition in Senigallia in 2020, alongside another personal project titled In Utopia.
That same year, his work was included in the book Two Time Photography, presented in Rimini and curated by Efrem Raimondi (Silvana Editoriale). In 2024, he took part in the public presentation of Abitare il Bosco, a collaborative book project co-authored with Giorgio Grantiero and dedicated to a close friend, combining image and text in a poetic, reflective tribute.
Whether in print or on the wall, Luchetti’s exhibitions aim to create spaces of intimacy and inquiry, where the body and its stories are brought into quiet, visible presence.
