Sewing came first, then art...when I was a child, my grandmother taught me to sew on her ancient, treadle, sewing machine. Later, I studied art and worked in a variety of media--oils, pen and ink, jewelry, fabric, and graphic design.
In 2009, quite by accident, I happened upon a book on art quilt collage that was to change the direction of my artistic expression. In art quilts, I saw the opportunity to combine two loves, art and fabric, in a unique way. I was completely captivated by a new world of possibilities, and I was inspired to attempt art quilt collage.
I believe my work reflects my love of both nature and color. I strive to bring life to my still life studies, and I attempt to capture a moment in time in my wildlife quilts.
Each piece begins with detailed drawings, which are then used to create patterns within patterns. Using fabric and thread instead of paint, I build my designs layer by layer. Each quilt is one of a kind, never to be repeated.
