Mark Bissell

born 17-05-1987.Thought provoking, odd, mysterious, suggestive, sinister and serene, these are some of the words that I feel best describe my work.

Sometimes I work on a large scale in paint and mixed-media though often my work is on a small intimate scale in book form. I strive to grip the audience, with my unique and intriguing slices of memory and imagination.
On my degree course I explored pigment through abstract work and have developed a colour palette that helps describe the feelings and atmospheres of my narrative work.

Deliberately obscuring the figures, objects and perspective within my work helps me to partly reveal unexpressed, emotional tensions from my past experience.

I employ a naive, narrative approach though I feel that my compositions have a more sophisticated use of space to keep my audience visually and intellectually stimulated.

I know that these paintings are only the beginning of a long journey.
