Maeve Van Klaveren

Maeve van Klaveren (1977) I’m an drawer based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I worked in the creative textile field. In 2015 I started my own practice.

The work starts in my head. These are often vague ideas. It can be a composition of men, a color composition and/or a photo I recently made of my sister.

I begin to work on paper with pencil when the images are more clear. Meanwhile I continue to search for input to make the image more meaningful. While drawing new images also occur.

The person depicted as subject is not the most important, eventually they transcend themselves and space and projection are going to play a more substantial role. The images from my head often arise from my experiences, observations and feelings that I connect together and put on paper, it often has a figurative and decorative feeling.

I have a fascination for colors and material expression which are frequently repeated in my drawings. These elements I work out with the use of drawingmaterial that can portray this in the best way.
