Charlie Mallon grew up on a farm in rural Tyrone. He studied blacksmithing in Hereford and stills runs a small metalworking company based on the farm. He was drawn to bronze casting, one of the most ancient forms of metalworking. In studying early methods and bronze art Charlie was inspired to create a series of bronze sculptures based on the symbols and stories of the ancient Celts. He worked with illustrator David Rooney, artist Clare Keys and author Kevin Johnston to create a collection of stories, prints and sculptures, all based on the same themes.
Charlie left school at 15 years of age with no qualifications. He studied black smithing at Hereford College and casting with professional foundries.
