Marc Lauwers

Marc’s earliest artistic memories are drawing images on his identical twin brother’s back with his finger, and this was a night time game they played at bedtime in Belgium.

Drawing was the twins’ favorite activity, and it created a world with no boundaries. As a teenager he spent three rigorous years at the Academie of Bruges, where he studied anatomy and discovered figure drawing with live models.

His college years at the Academie of Ghent exposed him to the modern art of the 1970’s. It was here that he developed his own expressive portrait and figure drawing style. Over the years his attention drifted from the larger figure to the face - an open book to a person’s history, emotions and spirit. Capturing the portrait at a particular time and place is an immortal testament to one’s presence.
