Marco Athie

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, I currently live in Boston, Massachusetts.. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Missouri and have been drawing and painting since I can remember.

I was drawn to the possibilities of 2D pictures looking at my dad's engineering renderings, schematics an abstract paintings. Always one to look out the window, be it at in a building or a moving train, I am inspired by Eero Saarinen's Gateway Arch, Buckminster Fuller Dymaxion maps, Richard Scarry's illustrated books, nature documentaries on PBS, how color establishes mood in cinema as well as the tessellations in nature and the universe. Much of my work reads as a portrayal of city-like forms, nuanced space-scapes and the contemplation of balance and dissonance in nature. Knowing we have so much visual stimuli and information literally at our fingertips, my layered, abstracted pictures are to be contemplated over multiple viewings.
