Most of my artworks - especially the paintings and experimental series - are philosophical positions, that is, “think-pieces” that want to inspire questions, discussions and critical reflections concerning fundamental topics accompanying human’s lives. All of these topics base in confrontations and tensions striking my own life, but in the reflective process of artistic creation they go far beyond that and enfold their psychological, historical, philosophical and aesthetical richness. By intending this I am following a dialectic strategy bringing conflicting spheres of meaning and value as well as contrasting means of expression (color, form, rhythm, materials etc.) into communication together.
To speak about dialectic in arts, for me does not only means to play with ambivalences in meaning. Much more, this is about discovering and making visible all the fine cracks in the fabric of thinking, deepened by the attentive sense of an artist for all magic and intrinsic meaning of matter he is working with.
Born in Berlin in 1987, I graduated parallel to my artistic career in German Philology (Bachelor of Arts) and Philosophy (Master of Arts). Both content and compositional arrangement of my paintings, collages and mixed media pieces additionally take their inspirational impulses from my early engagement in theatre dramaturgy and my ongoing exchange with live musicians from modern classic to folk and jazz.
This horizon widened by an expertise in Humanities’ research as well as in other genres like literature, theatre and music deepens and intensifies my work as an artist. It helps to identify and explicate questions of contemporary life and enlarges my concepts of artistic creation with an unusual cross-disciplinary background.
Since April 2017 I am director of Berlin “ArtStudio Maria Wirth” with a gallery liaison in Istanbul, both supported by Hans Otto Nagel’s “ArtVision”.
Since 2012 Maria Wirth’s artworks continually are present at exhibitions and art events in the Berlin area and beyond in Paris, Rome and Istanbul.
