Maria Vasquez

Maria Vasquez is a self-portrait artist of contemporary times. Born in 1973 in Peru. She spent 11 years in America before moving to the United Kingdom in 2005. She studied photography at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2004. "I had a great time learning about film photography and creating my own photographs. Spending hours in the Dark Room was intriguing, exciting, and restful all at once. After a few work on self-portraiture and drawing influence from female artists such as Cindy Sherman and Frida Kahlo, I began studying digital photography. I noticed myself becoming more connected to myself and capable of producing or expressing what I desired. Self-Portraiture is my path to liberation.
