Hello, I'm Maria Smith, and I am a contemporary artist based in the beautiful Cotswolds, UK.


I feel incredibly fortunate to live and work in such an inspiring area, and much of my art is a direct response to the unique light and rolling landscapes around me.

​I specialise in abstract and Impressionism painting, which I love for it's flexibility and vivid colours. My signature touch is incorporating gold and silver elements to my work. I find the metallic element doesn't just add a beautiful shimmer; it helps capture the way light actually reflects and moves across the canvas, adding a special luminosity and depth to each piece.

​It's truly humbling that my paintings have found homes all over the world. I've been fortunate enough to have collectors acquire my work in places like Dubai, Berlin, and many other countries. The fact that my art resonates with people globally is still something that surprises and delights me every day.

​My goal is simple: to create artwork that is uplifting and brings a bit of that Cotswolds magic into people's homes, wherever they are.

While I am primarily a self-taught artist, my true education has come through extensive travel and immersion in different cultures. My time living abroad, including a period of study in Utrecht, Netherlands, provided a crucial foundation for my eye and approach. Experiencing diverse European art histories firsthand profoundly shaped my understanding of colour, composition, and texture. This global perspective is something I strive to bring back into my work here in The Cotswolds UK.
