Maria Polunina

I am an abstract artist from Russia, live and work in Moscow.

I started painting in 2015. Before 2015 I was focused more on photography. Later, together with the practice of photography and design, I focused on painting.

I like the freedom that abstracts give me to express emotions and I hope to evoke emotions through my works. The abstract seems mysterious, mystical, has a universal scale, it is something that you can feel and imagine.

I am fascinated with shapes, colors, textures, and details and this can be seen evident in my works.

I am inspired by nature and the universe, also everyday observations, feelings, and life experiences in general, and by the works of such artists as Pollock, Rothko, Monet, Kandinsky, and many others.

I work in acrylics or mixed media on paper, canvas, and panels and like to work building up many layers to create richness, depth, and texture.
