Simon Wong

I was born in a small village outside Shenzhen in the Guangdong province in southern China. When I was only a few years old I escaped from the People's Republic of China, with my family to live in Hong Kong during the Great Leap Forward. This was a time of great suffering for the Chinese people under an economic and social plan which aimed to use China's vast population to rapidly transform mainland China from a primarily agrarian economy dominated by peasant farmers into a modern, industrialized communist society. This era of change inspires my back to nature scenes and how pre-industrial landscapes felt.I have been a British resident since 1978. I have taught Southern Praying Mantis kung fu (7th generation) Yellow Dragon fist kung fu (Founder), tai chi, chi kung, feng shui and meditation. Otherwise, I am painting and producing music. I started painting at 7 years old, regularly having my work displayed in school and winning competitions involving the entire school. At Art College I trained in traditional oil painting and classical Chinese painting under Master Pang Jade-Sip who in turn trained under Master Jewe Siu-Ong who was the founder of the Southern Chinese painting style, turning professional after leaving college. I then sold paintings in Hong Kong prior to coming to England. ,

From 5th June 2011 - 18th June 2011 Master Simon Wong is exhibiting his work in the Public Exhibition Space at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on the Ground Floor hospital foyer.

Brighton:-

Master Simon Wong exhibited in Brighton as a part of the "Home is where the ART is" http://www.iloveartuk.com show on the seafront at the The Fishing Quarter Gallery, 203 Kings Road Arches, Brighton BN1 1NB from 30th April - 12th May 2011, which was a lot of fun and a successful show.

Hackney Wick, Forman's Smokehouse Gallery Show 2:-

On 5th May 2011 Master Simon Wong's paintings were in the Dragons in the Lions Den show which exhibited Chinese Contemporary Art from Beijing to London, which was organised by YD Gallery, Charlie Pycraft www.charliepycraft.co.uk and Ping Works www.pingworks.org a UK creative hub at Forman's Smokehouse Gallery.
