Mel was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1976. Formally trained at Ballarat University in Victoria, Mel has learnt the necessary drawing skills to develop into an expressive mixed media artist.
Whilst she is clearly inspired by the Expressionism period, she is fascinated by the likes of many artists, including Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Edvard Munch, Mike Parr, Brett Whiteley, Picasso, Goya and Rick Amor.
Mel has a particular interest in the female form but does delve into landscapes and all aspects of life drawing including portraiture.
Whilst being out of the art world for sixteen years, she has been creative in other aspects such as web and multimedia design. Her favourite mediums include graphite, gouache, chalk pastel, collage and acrylic.
