I studied painting at Chelsea School of Art in London and graduated in 1977 with a degree in Fine Art. I began my career as a print colourist and then concentrated on animation, working on many commercials, television series and feature films, including the animated sequences in the biographical film about Beatrix Potter, ‘Miss Potter’.
In recent years, I have returned to painting, specialising in portrait work and in particular, horses: drawing and painting horses has been a passion of mine since childhood. I have always been intrigued by their beauty and spirit.
I prefer to meet the horses before I begin to paint them, (from a photograph either I or the owner has taken) so that I can get to know them and reveal their individual character in the portrait. I paint in a traditional style, in oil, building up layer upon layer, as if I were sculpting them in three dimensions.
