My work centres on metamorphosis, transfiguration, mutation, subversion and revolution, and toying with perceptions of tangible reality. I’m inspired by scientific advances investigating matter and its theoretical opposite, and the potential for science to cross over with religious and spiritual beliefs related to the big issues: life, death, rebirth and the potential for time to be non-linear. I produce visual works, photographs, paintings, and/or installations that weave an atmosphere suggesting the transcendence of time and matter as we currently understand it. “Ghosts” and land energies have been a focal point across world cultures for millennia and are a constant undercurrent in my work. I am naturally drawn to the remotest of places to feel the power of the earth in its most immediate form, and to reflect that power in my images.
Working across a range of media, I’m particularly drawn to the use of found objects such as mold, ashes, dead flowers and rain in my immediate surroundings, wherever that may be. My photographs revolve around reflected light, shadow, and glaring points of light, shadows and illusions, always in support of the expression of the subconscious.
