I was born in London in 1938, and lived there till 1995 when I moved to Margate, Kent.
I studied briefly at St Martins School of Art, London, 1956-1957.
In 2002 I moved to S.W.France, the Lot, and that’s where I continue to live.
From 1986 till 2002 I painted portraits professionally, nearly all of CEOs, families and pets.
Since moving to France, I have let my style evolve. It has been both a natural evolution and a complex analytical evolution. I call it: “Divisional Graduated Colours” and can trace its beginnings in 1960.
I can easily explain the name: “Divisional” because the objects in the drawing are divided into divisions. And “Graduated Colours” is the method of painting: the colours are graduated within the divisions.
My drawing is representational realism of diverse subjects, including, portraits, and landscapes, copies of Old Masters and interpretations of Greek Myths, painted in oils, acrylic and watercolour. I change the appearance of the subjects because of the divisions I make, and I add to that change because I further divide the divisions into squares or triangles. Those I paint individually with pre-chosen colours which I graduate following a given set of values I determine by perspective.
