Mercedes Moreteau

My name is Mercedes Moréteau, I am Argentinean and I create digital embroideries using emojis. I work placing hundreds of thousands of emojis one by one until I achieve the final composition.

The choice of technique is central to the very concept of my artistic production as a whole: I seek to transcend, transform and re-signify the emptiness of the cold and massified technological medium with which we daily seek to endow with humanity our digital communication.

Each work becomes, by means of this technique, a visual and emotional journey whose the observer chooses; Each square centimeter of the work becomes a composition in itself, going from the totality to the surprise of the pointillist detail and back to the totality, endowing it with new meanings in each immersion.

I am a self taught digital artist and makeup artist. I grew up between Mar del Plata and Patagonia. Since 2017 to date, I continuously work with the emoji language to paint digitally.
In 2008 I began my training as a makeup artist (a profession that was key to understanding morphology and colorimetry) in Buenos Aires, Paris, London and Dubai.
I live and work between Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata.

In 2019 I've participated of the exhibition Art-Tech placed in Colección Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat, Buenos Aires, among other artists. I live and work in Buenos Aires Argentina.
