Stefania Morgante

I have always had a pencil in my hand since I was three years old.
I wrote poems, short stories, and gave up the visual arts to make jewelry. I studied photography, resumed drawing and illustrating, modeled clay and paper, returned to painting after being a press office for theater and teaching art history to kids between 11 and 13. I created covers for fiction and magazines, manifests for cultural festivals, and theater posters.
My thesis in Theory of Forms in Bologna, northern Italy, was on a Sylvia Plath poem inspired by a de Chirico painting, The Disquieting Muses.
I read a lot and still read, and I used brushes very little because I had lost a sense of what I was doing and went back to studying. But then I went back to painting with more passion.
In my head Georgia O' keeffe, Van Gogh, German Expressionism, 1960s advertising. Mediterranean colors explode in my hands even though I would like to be as essential as an ikebana.
My artistic path will probably continue with painting and drawing, but I know I will explore a lot.
