I had a need to strike a nerve that could not be seen in my previous works. The realization of loving the painting dearly and loving the simple yet complex. To get to the core, I ended up happily admitting that I love pastel colors and I love the motifs I've already done before. Those things really come out in this new expression.
The motifs are a mixture of motifs I have worked with a lot in the past. Wings, the monk expression, horns and the impressions I collect in my life. Now I mix it up and stay in a far less colorful universe. The colors are especially important in this one. From working with color explosions for 20 years, my maturity as an artist is hitting. Now we have to keep all the "wild" behind and just let the wild grow behind the pastel-colored large area on the canvas.
The term is intended as part of "the next generation of painting" – a generation that is always where you are now. A cryptic generation of my monks, where you look into yourself and so on to the generation that is in front of you. Is the monk just us?
