Nafisa Shahzadi is a contemporary Arabic calligraphy artist based in Sialkot, Pakistan. Her practice reinterprets classical calligraphic traditions through modern abstraction, layered textures, and expressive surfaces, resulting in visually rich artworks that carry both spiritual depth and contemporary appeal.

Artist Bio & Statement

Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media on canvas, Nafisa explores the visual language of Arabic calligraphy beyond its traditional boundaries. Her artworks are developed through a process of layering, texture building, and refined color application, allowing the script to emerge organically from the surface. This method gives each piece a sense of movement, depth, and tactile presence, making every artwork unique and unrepeatable.

Her inspiration is rooted in Qur’anic verses and the symbolic power of sacred text, which she approaches not only as written language but as a visual form capable of expressing emotion, rhythm, and spiritual reflection. By balancing structured calligraphic forms with contemporary abstraction, her work creates a dialogue between heritage and modern expression.
