My inspiration to paint comes from everything, but I am mostly inspired by the Art Nouveau period 1890-1920. Organic forms and lyrical swirling lines characterize this art style. Art Nouveau embraced architecture, textiles, silver, jewelry, painting, posters, furniture and ceramics.
This delicate and bold imagery detailed in my mixed-media paintings are applied with brush and acrylic paint, pen and ink, collage and actual flower parts. I don't plan or pre-think paintings, it is all intuitive. I enjoy this journey that is one of surprise and discovery.
a blank canvas isn't always an artist's best friend. After texturing the canvas, an abstract design becomes the foundation for the botanical. My artistic sensibilities are stimulated as I explore and reveal the secrets that appear with the confines of the canvas. While balancing color, shape, design, line and rhythm, whimsical elements inevitably play with my imagination.
As you view the botanicals, I hope you will be entertained, amused, and pleasantly charmed. Look very closely and you’ll see something new with every encounter. Enjoy!
