Noel Cullen

Born: 5th October 1985
Noel Cullen is an Irish multi-disciplinary artist, based in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, Ireland.

My artwork takes a creative view of psychological and social issues. Particular research material would be Jean Piaget's theory on cognitive development which provides a framework for thinking about human growth, development, and learning. Also Symbol and Myth: Humbert De Superville Essay on Absolute Signs in Art.

This type of thinking and my artistic influences such as; Miroslaw Balka, a Polish sculptor whose work deals with both personal and collective memories, Motoi Yamamoto, a Japanese salt installation artist and Bill Vlola, an American video artist, all come together to give me the inspiration and drive to create and express in a conceptual based art form.

My work takes a minimalist approach to colour whilst embracing form, texture and shape, arranged into conceptually layered pieces.
While I use a variety of materials and processes in each project my methodology is consistent. Although there may not always be similarities between the different projects this is down to the natural development and evolution of my work over time.
