Panagiotis Brentas

I am a Greece-based artist, involved with various means of expression, such as sculpture, painting and drawing, poetry, performance, and video. My ongoing journey into the world of art has been developed with an ecological sense of being in the world, facing new challenges and experiences.

I perceive the Natural World as an archetypical gallery, in which the flora and the fauna are the pieces of art I have been looking for. My main quest concerns the “hidden and elusive” in the natural environment, which is encoded into the phenomena. Through my practice I explore the traces which secretly connect the human psyche with the non-human world.
My intention is, through action, to cultivate the Ecological Self. In order to fulfill this aspiration, I look for direct experiences in Nature, for contacts which can potentially trigger the deepening of the experience. I consider this experience as an essential way of exploring Life.
The biggest part of my art practice, takes place outdoors in Nature, and the creative process is intensive and rich. I spend time with animals, trees, rivers, and mountains, and, as a result, I expand myself into the landscape.
Metaphorically, my work is a rhythmic knocking on a wooden door, a silent calling...

2013 - 2014 Postgraduate studies on Art & Environment in Falmouth University.

2006 - 2011 Undergraduate Studies in Athens School of Fine Arts, in the 3rd sculpture class with sculptor George Houliaras. In the 2006 of the University, he had a distinction taking the highest mark, and in 2011, he graduated with honors, taking a scholarship for making postgraduate studies abroad.

2005 - 2006 Studies on Painting and Drawing for the general admission exams of School of Fine Arts, in the preparatory workshop of the sculptor Kostas Argyris.

2001 - 2005 Freelance research on the Greek folk art.

1995 - 2004 Undergraduate Studies in the Technological and Educational Institute of Athens on Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art.
