I am an artist who works directly in Nature, outdoors in front of the subject, returning every day until the painting is completed. My paintings have a rich evocative use of colour, a physicality of paint and a spatial depth that capture the solidity and transitory effects of Nature. I try to understand the substance of reality...to find the infinite within the realms of the finite and to express this profound spirituality of the subject in paint and colour. The paintings are painted in a realistic-impressionistic manner akin to landscape artists of the nineteenth century.
I was born in West Yorkshire and studied Fine Art at the Jacob Kramer College of Art and the University of Lancashire. Even though I received an art education and a Fine Art Degree, I consider myself fundamentally to be self-taught landscape artist.
I was the recipient of the 'Jacob Kramer College of Art Most Promising Student Award', a finalist in the 'Winsor & Newton Young Artists Award' at the Mall Galleries in London and an Artist in Residence at Burton Agnes Hall, North Yorkshire. I have exhibited in numerous exhibitions, including The Cleveland International Drawing Biennale, The Royal College of Art in London, The Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibitions in London, The Royal West of England Autumn Exhibitions in Bristol, The Mall Galleries in London, The South West Open Exhibition in Plymouth and Truro, The Portico Gallery in Manchester, The Malvern Open Drawing Exhibition, The Alberti Gallery in Cork Street, London, The Roy Miles Gallery in London, The Loggia Gallery in London, The Paul Hawkins Gallery in London, The British Lime Gallery in Laguna Beach, California, USA, The Blenheim Gallery in London, the Portobello Art Fair in London, The David Simon Gallery in Bristol and the Bath Contemporary Art Fair.
