Ian Phenna

Ian Phenna is a self-taught artist originally from Liverpool, England. Now based in Sydney, he has exhibited on streets and in galleries across the UK and Amsterdam and has work in private collections worldwide.

His ability to migrate between different mediums is his real talent. With a love of street art gained from his early days, Ian has always had incredible skills with a brush or a spray can in his hand and originally started by daubing paint on walls.

Ian is now hugely experienced and has progressed dramatically to a unique style of portrait interpretation. Known mostly for his portrait and figurative work, Ian brings significant elements of street style to his contemporary based approach.

Ian has for years produced thoughtful and provocative work via a variety of mediums, he now creates paintings, drawings and mixed media artworks if not painting on the street.

Referring to popular culture and the urban environment, Ian layers up colour, texture and text into his unique style of portraiture. His paintings don't always reference recognisable form. The results are deconstructed to create intensely personal moments created by means of rules and omissions.
