My name is Pietie. Actually Pietie is not my real name, but that’s what my family and friends call me. Pietie is the creative and silly part of me that likes to play and have fun. My real name is Pieter Schoeman. My friends refer to that side of me as the VIL. That stands for Very Important Lawyer. And indeed, from Monday to Friday during working hours, I am a VIL doing VIL things for a huge big company.
Pietie always was a creative little boy with all sorts of crazy things buzzing through his mind. This could keep him busy for hours. For many years he completely ignored that side of him and directed all his energy on being a VIL. This made him miserable, because as much as Pietie needs intellectual stimulation, he functions at his best when he also makes time to play and be silly and think of beautiful pictures.
Pietie loves graffiti the most of all art in the whole wide world. He also loves toys, any toys, as long as they don't hurt other toys......bath ducks and toy cars and Lego and model trains and …..
Apart from these things he really enjoys telling stories, of things that happened, or lessons that he learnt.
Pietie does have quite a few legal qualifications. But that's rather dull and boring and who wants to listen to that anyway???
Pietie has no art education or qualifications. At the youthful age of 46 he laid his hands on a canvas for the very first time. This happened after he met Anastasia Sarantinou of the Blue Planet Studio in Muizenberg, Cape Town, South Africa. Whatever Pietie dream, she understood and guided him through the process, resulting in pictures so beautiful that he had to pinch himself to believe that originated from within.
It’s only logical that Pietie makes pictures that combines toys and graffiti and always have a story to tell. How can a little blonde boy possibly make a picture without a story to tell???
Not yet.... but quite open to the idea....
