I was born in Wichita Kansas. My mother, Lois McCall, was an accomplished landscape painter and my father, Henry McCall, whom was a business man, greatly inspired me in many ways. I started painting in oils at the age of 4 with my mother, reworking one of her landscapes and I have been intrigued with painting ever since.
I can best describe my work as purist landscapes. It is about the pure form of the landscape the color of the sky, clouds, rocks, and trees. I avoid painting buildings, people, or dated objects in my landscapes.
I paint from my memory and imagination this allows me to focus on a timeless feeling of nature. I strive for a lyrical or magical glowing feeling in my work, while trying to convey a sense of calmness and serenity. Each work can vary greatly depending on the feeling and memory of the landscape filtered thru my imagination. I do see a general look about my work, which I hope you enjoy.
- Preston McCall
I graduated from the University of Kansas in 1973 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drawing, painting, and art history. My education was focused on realism, landscapes, and architecture. I also paint 'portraits' of some of my favorite automobiles in a photoreal style, as for ten years after college I restored many of these in my shop in Lawrence, Kansas. 1976-1986. I still have an interest in old cars as a great subject to paint. Yes, I still do commissions of your interesting collectible automobile.
I have had numerous exhibitions throughout the Mid-West, East Coast and South-West since 1974.
Moved to Santa Fe to open McCall Fine Art in 2014, but now back in Kansas City, 505-660-7370
