Julian Sanders builds his signature intense, richly textured abstract collages using a sophisticated palette of shape, line and colour. From his studio in South Wales he creates works which range in scale from small intricate pieces to more expansive single and multi-panelled works on board, paper and canvas. Julian has spent much of his professional career heading up his own highly successful design agency, where he has been responsible for creating products for some of the worlds most recognised brands. His achievements have been widely recognised with numerous national and international design awards, including Germany’s prestigious Red Dot Design Awards, multiple European Product Design Awards and the UK’s Design Week Awards to name a few. Having recently retired as owner and Creative Director of the agency he set up over 30 years ago, Julian has in recent years returned to his first love of drawing and ‘mark making’ in its broadest sense. This website shows a small selection of his latest work. Characterised by an open ended process of experimentation and mistake. The pieces are continuous works in progress that consist of multiple layers of various media that create a living, three dimensional, sculptural surface.
