In his work accident and inevitability are conjoined through the processes of making rubbed copies, cutting and tearing hanji, and gluing hanji pieces. I was born on a small island in the south of Korea.I have an art studio near Seoul, and I mainly work and present in Seoul. It has been 35 years since I painted, I have done 15 solo exhibitions, and I work on Korean paper with a mixture of collage, painting and drawing.,The theme of the work is about love and uneasy feelings derived from my relationship with humans.Kim creates images by collaging pieces of rice paper with rubbings on hanji, traditional handmade Korean paper, adhered to the canvas and then again applies pictorial images to this. The dark ground from which enigmatic images emerge looks like an abyss or a chaotic space where all is concealed and buried. This may be either an enormous genesis laden with images or the bottom of the unconscious. It is also either a primal chaotic space before things came into being, a land where plants grow, or a place for the heart from which all are derived. He scoops up images one by one from this black ground and maintains a specific form. This is like a peasant growing things.
