Verena Gorge is a mystical place of power that is situated just outside the city of Solothurn. The hermitage, which is named after Saint Verena of Zurzach. She is said to have passed near the area, and lived in a cave near Solothurn. It dates back to the 15th century and includes a hermit’s dwelling and two chapels. One of the two chapels is among the oldest buildings in Solothurn. According to a centuries-old custom, the hermitage continues to be maintained by a real hermit.
