This drawing is a figurative gesture of liberation from the role of a victim imposed by circumstances, environment, or even social expectations. Julia Suprun is a Ukrainian artist who works primarily with graphite pencil and oil paint. Her art combines realistic and surreal elements, often exploring the power of nature and its quiet dominance over human presence. In her graphite drawings, she creates meticulously detailed scenes where plants, trees, and natural textures come to the forefront. In her oil paintings, she embraces bold, vibrant color to depict scenes from everyday life—often focusing on domestic and greenhouse plants, intimate landscapes, and visual fragments from around her home. Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, in 1989, Julia graduated in 2011 from the Kharkiv Art College with a degree in Theatre and Decorative Arts. She worked for several years as a set designer in one of Kharkiv’s leading theatres, and simultaneously studied Graphic Arts at the Kharkiv Academy of Design and Arts. With the outbreak of war in Ukraine, she turned more deeply to personal artistic practice, which she sees as a form of healing and inner resistance. Today, her work continues to reflect a strong connection to nature, a search for meaning in everyday environments, and a quiet emotional intensity.
