Ardi Prain "I am a self-taught visual artist based in the highland city of Batu, East Java, Indonesia. My creative journey is deeply inspired by the breathtaking natural landscapes of my homeland and a profound personal motivation to capture the essence of life. My work is heavily influenced by the legendary Indonesian masters, specifically the dramatic flair of Raden Saleh and the raw honesty of S. Sudjojono. I am particularly drawn to their masterful use of color, which I translate into my own contemporary practice. While I primarily work with acrylics on canvas, I also frequently explore the medium of Chinese ink on paper. In my process, I tend to be highly expressive. Even when depicting botanical subjects or vast landscapes, a strong expressive quality remains at the heart of my compositions. Whether through bold brushstrokes or intricate ink lines, I aim to merge the romanticism of the past with a modern, emotive energy. For me, consistency and the personal fulfillment found in the act of creation are my most valuable guides, as I strive to invite viewers into a space of reflection and natural harmony."
