Kintsugi III, The house Print

You can not choose your family, but you can escape from it. In the Kintsugi series I explore self-healing through art. Sometimes there are things we can not control or choose which are harmful to us. Though now I am in good terms with my family, the process of growing up in a home where things were not easy made me feel weird and isolated. With time, I have learnt to understand that it was not my fault, and though the experiences I lived while growing up were unpleasant, they are just part of the past and, without them, I would not be who I am today. We went through all the pain as a family and now we know each other better and we stand together. The artwork depicts the family house, an old cattle farm which is isolated in a valley. A family member had a psychotic episode when I was fourteen years old and tried to commit suicide. While all this was happening, I could just think of a ladder coming out of my room and taking me out of there.
