ABOUT THE ARTWORK
There's a story to these: A dozen reclaimed bakery boards came into my possession, where warm soft dough was kneaded by strong hands and left to rise. They were yearning for me to tease out images of warm bodies from their surfaces. I chose to use line (charcoal, graphite and white chalk paste which allowed me to combine the natural grain of the old (plywood) boards into the images. Although these images focus on the female form, the hope is that they will be empowering. These are not lewd, but they worship and respect the beauty and power of the human body.

I'm an artist based in East Lothian (Scottish North Sea Coast.) My work is a celebration of the crazy circus we call life. The small windows are a common motif in my work, representing the silent witness inside each of us, that we can maybe feel behind our eyes, looking out upon the bizarre dramas of this parade. I work in sculpture, painting and drawing, my preference is for narrative imagery which comes to me unannounced (from my subconscious?) My job is a humble one; simply to make the marks that represent these images as best I can. The narrative imagery invites interpretation from each viewer, it's fun, quirky, can be a little cheeky, and at other times a touch sorrowful. I recommend viewing it with your heart and not your mind. But in either case, my wish is simply that it's enjoyed.. Damian
