About The Artwork

The Horse Goddess, Macha, is an ancient Celtic myth. In her story, she married a farmer named Cruinniuc. After Cruinniuc's first wife died, she appeared at his house and, without speaking, began acting as his wife. As long as they were together Cruinniuc's wealth increased. When he went to a festival organised by the king of Ulster, she warned him that she would only stay with him so long as he did not mention her to anyone, and he promised to say nothing. However, during a chariot race, he boasted that his wife could run faster than the king's horses. The king heard, and demanded she be brought to put her husband's boast to the test. Despite being heavily pregnant, she raced the horses and beat them, giving birth to twins on the finish line. Thereafter the capital of Ulster was called Emain Macha, or "Macha's twins". It is a complex and interesting story, and I hope my viewers find interest in it, too. The Horse goddess was created with PhotoShop and Illustrator along with a hand drawn sketch (that I used as visual reference).

I am an artist and graphic designer living and working in western Colorado. I hold three Bachelors of arts degrees, and I actually make use of each of them even though they are somewhat varied. I went back to school to study Fine Art (printmaking), and fell in love with learning, so I went on to get degrees in Advertising/Design and Anthropology. My primary mediums are drawing (usually sanguine and black - sometimes small spots of color) and printmaking (mezzotint and engraving). In the last 3 years, I discovered digital drawings and paintings, and this endeavor has opened new and exciting doors for me, and I have created a lot of art with this “new” media. Aside from my art, I enjoy the outdoors, music, fashion fitness and my family.
