Artist Statement – Behnaz chahkandi I am an Iranian–Nigerian Contemporary Artist who has spent the past nine years living in Nigeria, an experience that has profoundly shaped my artistic vision. My work is a fusion of the rich histories, cultures, and artistic traditions of both Iran and Nigeria. Each piece is a bridge between these two worlds, blending Persian heritage with the vibrant essence of African artistry. Through my art, I explore the beauty, symbolism, and storytelling deeply rooted in both cultures. I use mixed media, incorporating elements such as gold leaf, acrylics, and traditional patterns to create a unique visual language that speaks to shared histories and interconnected identities. My inspiration comes from ancient motifs, folklore, and the dynamic expressions of both civilizations, transforming them into contemporary narratives. By merging these cultural elements, I aim to spark conversations about heritage, identity, and the ways in which art can connect seemingly distant worlds. My goal is to create works that resonate universally while celebrating the unique beauty of both Iranian and Nigerian artistic traditions.
