Roy Hastick is an oil pastel artist and practitioner of Vibrant Lyrical Abstract Expressionism, whose work merges the vivid energy of his Caribbean roots with the serene majesty of the high desert of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Born in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Roy was raised among the vibrant hills and shores of the British Virgin Islands by a close-knit circle of family. Despite a lack of stability at home, the colors and rhythms of the Caribbean became his first true muse. As a child, he could often be found perched on his favorite seaside rock, sketching on paper bags with crayons and pencils—laying the early foundation for a lifelong journey in art. Roy moved to New York as a teenager, where he reunited with his mother and discovered a dynamic new world of galleries, museums, and contemporary art spaces. Though he pursued a career in hospitality and human resources to make a living, his art quietly grew in the background—earning admiration from friends, coworkers, and casual observers alike. Everything shifted in 2017 when Roy was introduced to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Its expansive skies, golden light, and deep artistic heritage sparked a powerful creative awakening. Since relocating permanently in 2018, Roy has fully dedicated himself to his artistic practice, specializing in oil pastel—a medium he uses to capture the quiet poetry of still life and the dramatic emotion of Southwestern landscapes. His pieces reflect not only what he sees but what he feels—each shape and hue a meditation on place, memory, and resilience. His paintings have found homes with collectors through reputable venues such as Hastick Gallery.
