Jarmila Kostliva focuses on a wide scale of subjects. A conceptual approach isolates biological elements or objects in sequences, revealing the inseparable relationship between abstract and intellectual. She imaginatively draws inspiration from images of science, history, and technology by exploring primordial life and biomorphic forms metaphorically related to human physiognomy and psychology. This creative process is a communication search to reveal the connections between the present and discovering a subconscious awareness of our past existence. The essence of her artwork and her practice in oil, acrylic, and mixed and new media embodies the energy and continuity translated from her vocabulary and her beliefs in discovering the unknown. She currently lives and works in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Website: Born in Prague, Jarmila graduated from the Fine and Applied Arts in the Czech Republic, later continuing with independent studies in Fine Arts at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Originally trained as a ballet dancer, she performed on stages in Prague and accomplished many professional international engagements. Her later transition to visual art practice in Canada has been her natural progression in her need to communicate her presence as an artist. Music, dramatic arts, dance, and cinema still imbue her artworks with personal insights, inspirations, and drama. Her work has been shown in Canada, the USA, Europe, and South America. Receiving international awards in competitions, it featured her work on several art platforms. She has received international awards in competitions, and you can see detailed lists of accomplishments on her website.
