Ariane Baffie began painting in 1998, when she was 20 years old. From Capbreton in Southwestern France where she grew up, she moved to Toulouse during the year 2000 and quickly developed her own artistic style. Her work is led by the accuracy of the curves. Her subjects become lines, in a world where optimism translates into soft and vibrant tones. The colors, few in numbers, are bright and worked in a way to show the best of the light, especially with paintbrush touches which softly bring a subtle back texture. After almost a decade of work on minimalistic figures, it was time to bring more volume into her painting. Balancing between suggestion and expression, the range of emotions is broader and her subjects can have even more presence. In 2009 she discovered motherhood with her first daughter, followed by a second one in 2010. After such an upheaval, a yearning from deep within to express her sensitivity, to find again these sensations of truth, of sweetness, of happiness, of letting go, embraced her with a new strength. This time, it is the world of danse, the energy of circus artists, which are the focus of her new paintings. But it is not just about movement and performance, and she still finds the time for her favorite lucky flower and a more naïve expression. « Going back to the basics in order to better understand them, seeing the intention behind, choosing the right moves to show a strong emotion, that’s where I lie. » Ariane Baffie.
