Built in 1885, the lighthouse is located at the entrance of the port in Port-Vendres, small fishermen town in the South of France near the Spanish border, on the Mediterranean Sea side. Port-Vendres, one of the few natural ports in France, was built by the Phoenician in the 6th Century BC and was originally named Portus Veneris "The Port of Venus", the lighthouse can be seen with a radius of 15 kilometres. With a spider shape, it's composed with 6 stretched legs, 14.5 meters high, then atop, a platform cabin (where the guardian used to live in the past) at 16 meters high, and 2 meters above the lantern room. This stretched shape allows stability and strength to the building during the storms, high waves and gust of wind, and allows the elements to pass through without impacting too much the structure. The midday sun prints out light to the structure creating a contrasting effect between lights and shades that define volumes and spatial lines. The lighthouse synthesizes its shapes into a volatile geometry and from there this is where, me as an observer, I let myself go to the loniless and lightness that draws in the sky. The construction, then is activated and summarized in colours, lights, shades, volumes, levels in a geometrical study with some doses of abstraction. My work as an artist starts here, in this point.
