Texas native, Brett Jowell, is a self-taught, multifaceted abstract artist who currently calls Dallas, Texas home. Considered a “late in life” artist, Brett spent his early years in various roles professionally. In 2019, after years of denying his true purpose along with the necessity to fulfill his overwhelming desire to live a truthful and creative life, he began to paint… and he hasn’t stopped since. He has completed over 250 works in a little over 4 years time. Though he has been influenced by his world travels to Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, England, and Scotland, and has expanded his visual palette by living all over the country in cities like New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Dallas, his source of inspiration continues to be motivated by his undeniable love of the process coupled with an obsession with the rich, vibrant, and infinite possibilities of colors on canvas. Brett rarely begins a piece with a brush in hand. Using trowels, pallet knives, pouring cups, and a variety of power tools, he experiments with various mediums including acrylic, oils, water, adhesives, inks, and powdered mica pigments, just to name a few. He does not limit his creative flow with boundaries and limitations. Driven by his muse, which is the unrelenting need to create using color and the moment, he incorporates a variety of techniques governed by his unique and instinctual method. He has sold several works to local Dallasites. One local buyer had this to say: “Brett is nothing less than a brilliant and creative artist. His ingenuity and need to create is only surpassed by his generous and kind spirit.” - 2022 “One of my pieces may contain multiple layers of paint, incorporating various concepts, which eventually compound into the final product. I do not duplicate my work; each piece begins as unique as my mood at the moment. I set no preconceived concept or limitations other than a potential color scheme. The canvas and I work together to dictate the direction. The process for me, both meditative and therapeutic, allows me to become engrossed in the piece as I let the canvas guide me. A piece may look final at many stages, but I know when it is complete, regardless of supplies, time, and energy. This is my escape from day-to-day life, my sanctuary.” - Brett Jowell
