BIOGRAPHY Ewa Jaros is a painter living and working in Barcelona, Spain. She has been developing projects related to memory, uprooting and encounter. She was born in Poland and has lived abroad for more than twenty years. The separation from her homeland has always had a symbolic meaning to her. That situation led her to feel an intense sensation that there is always something familiar even when far apart, the near in the distance. Her works consists mainly of oil on canvas and wood of various sizes, and also inks on paper. She is a graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona and also has studied at the Barcelona Academy of Art. STATEMENT I want to challenge the feeling of being separated from something familiar, as there is always something familiar even when far apart from you: the near in the distance. The main approach in my painting is to bring that something back to me, and make it manifest itself. I consider every work I make an encounter. Hence, the symbols and signs of unity in my canvases are of special importance: waters and circles, strings and spirals, lights and lines, bodies and fusion. I don’t use reference photographs at the moment of painting. I play with accidental stains, covering the canvas, with the spontaneous and also with sudden precise flashes of memory. I paint quickly, but the painting usually requires way more time until the final image arises. The process of painting and playing with flashes of memory are the most meaningful to me.
