Kevin Cross is an artist based in New York City. He was born and raised in Limerick, Ireland. In 2006 he moved to New York where he began his art practice. His work has been shown nationally and is held in private collections around the world. Artist Statement: Kevin Cross’s latest work explores the relationship between atmosphere and structure. Each painting begins with the gradual build-up of layered gradients, created through a slow, repetitive process that produces a sense of depth and quiet movement across the surface. Once this atmospheric field is established, Cross introduces geometric forms over the painting. These structures, often resembling windows, interrupt the gradient rather than contain it—creating a frame through which the viewer is invited to look more closely. The work shifts from being something you look at to something you look into. Repetition plays an important role in the process. Working to the steady rhythm of minimal electronic music, Cross enters a meditative state where the paintings evolve through subtle variations over time. This sense of flow is embedded in the surface, where controlled geometry and fluid color coexist. The result is a body of work that encourages stillness and attention—balancing structure and openness while inviting the viewer into a more immersive visual experience.
