About The Artwork

This series is made upon various things happening around me. First inspiration was seeing the Richard Mosses exhibition at Louisiana in Denmark. I got very touched by the beauty he managed to get out off that nightmare war in Congo. Actually I thought, I was going to work in very strong colours, due to the fact that Mosse’s works are very colourful. But at the same time I was reading “The hand of Fatima” by Ildefonso Falcones, which is about the intern war in Spain against the Moriscos in the late middle age. Here I realised how black and white a war is and from then I decided to work in black and white. It is a special moment for all of us right now surrounded by terrorism and that made the colours even more black and white. The painting is also about self-defence or as here self-defence without weapon. Often a war is so crude that defending yourself makes no sense. The red line in the bottom of the painting is an electrocardiogram, that shows in a very exact way whether there is life or not. To boost the fact that we are talking about death or life and small fluctuations can often be fatal. Original art work, oil and tempera on canvas. Gallery wrapped and stretched on a 2 cm deep stretcher frame, the edges are painted. Shipped stretched and ready to hang.

Born and raised in Denmark. Since 1998 working and living in Italy. Main inspiration "the human form". Working with the "space" between people. Often working in layers and using the transparency to get depth into my painting. Layers that can be very different but combined through colors.
