ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This work was inspired by the magnificent western wall of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. The western wall is dominated by a large Valentine like heart. The rock is always changing in the way the light plays on it vast walls. This side of El Capitan has become very famous recently because of the movie "Free Solo." Alex Honnold climbed the "Free Rider Route of El Capitan" which is just to the left of the heart of El Capitan. This side of El Capitan and the magnificent heart shape have shaped this work.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
