ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This piece is part of a series of works called Human Texture. It shows a chain of small anonymous beings, members of a village, where each one has a home that surrounds his head and a row of trees above, creating patterns of a very primitive habitat where all coexist covering their basic needs. This series was born as a need to check the values of a western, consuming society, chaotic and stressing, where there is no place or time for contemplation of the essential. I hope that this work will give you a pleasant feeling of inner peace and relaxation, that will make you think which are your basic needs. Handmade paper is less rigid a support that together with the watercolor painting create textures that integrate harmonically with the subject.

I was born in Chile where I started studying etching, drawing and oil painting at age ten. The main subject of my artwork has always been people, as small anonymous beings, part of an endless human chain, creating primitive patterns or painting and printing etchings of women, men and children scenes of daily life on handmade paper. The results are particularly interesting in the colorfulness and the diverse textures that create the connection between the old and the new, which developed mainly from the use of dark brown for drawing and the bright colored watercolors for painting. Since 1996 to 2008 I created and exhibited my artworks in differewnt art galleries in Chile, Argentina, and NY, USA. In 2010 I started recycling colored plastic bags and turning them into artworks. Since then I have a permanent exhibition at one of the art galleries in the old quarter of Rosh Pina, lovely village by Safed in the Upper Galilee, Israel, where I live with my husband David. Today I am back into watercolor painting and printing etchings on handmade paper. My works are sold to art collectors from all around the world.
