ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting is a homage to houseplants. They connect our homes to nature, and boast their own unique personalities. I have painted it with the highest quality oils and handmixed mediums on stretched linen canvas. I wanted this piece to bring a sense of joy, life and play on the emotionality of colour.

A Polish born painter based in UK, with MA from the Academy of fine Arts in Wroclaw, and a scholarship residency at the Art Faculty of the University of Tennessee in USA under her belt. The vastly different approaches of these institutions have provided Martyna with the framework for the current art practice. Martyna's works feature in collections across continents and she has exhibited in UK, numerous countries of continental Europe, USA and Australia. She has collaborated with brands like Nina Ricci, Djeco, BBC & her imagery can be found in Museum shops across the UK, Kew Gardens, Antropologie, amongst others. 'I am inspired by the natural world, but also by the complexity of human inner emotional life. Many of my works will feature animals immersed in exotic landscape or juxtaposed against geometric patterns. The animals represent people and situations I have come across or imagined. On the formal level, I focus on the emotionality of colour and contrast bold raw textures with delicately layered glazes. The paintings often reference elaborate patterns and art forms naturally occurring in nature. My working process embraces elements of randomness and accidents, inevitable when working with the tactile medium of paint. As a result, the painting act is a journey where the final outcome will often sweep me in an unexpected direction.
