A part of the Life is Elsewhere series, "I'm a Monster, Too" is, in a grander sense, a response to living in the current age of ready judgement of/ comparison to others' lives. On a more personal scale, it's the duality that comes with being a good yet flawed person. My work is different when viewed up close vs far away, so the interpretation can be both up close and far away. It's a very introspective piece. Smooth, washy watercolor with bold strokes from oil bar, pastel.

Melanie lives and works in rural North Carolina, outside of Asheville. Her work looks at portraiture from different angles and uses the face as a ground for abstraction and exploration of the psyche. The bold, expressive strokes in oil underscore the delicate ephemera of the watercolor.
