KINGS VISION
Pride, clash of culture, style are major themes in my work as I try to create a dream world, an “Afro-futuristic” vision was I leave my viewer curious at my figures.
My work portrays the present set back faced by blacks in regards to identity, “identity crisis” is a major theme that influences my work, which I clearly execute using two different materials, the newspaper as a symbol of western material and the African fabrics as a symbol of western material and culture and the African fabrics as a symbol of African material and culture, they both stand out as a major element in this piece and they clearly represent my idea on “clash of culture”. The newspapers also play the role of knowledge and my familiarity with the borrowed language “English”; as it is a colonial, it shows my intellectual capability to comprehend deep phrases and sentences which tell controversial stories.
KING OF THE CULTURE!
King of my city, king of my country
King of my homeland
King of the filthy, king of the fallen
We living again
King of the shooter's, looters, boosters
And ghettos Poppin
King of the past, present, future
My ancestors watching...............

My name is Stephen Aifegha, I was born in Lagos state; the western part of Nigeria often known as the New York of Nigeria, due to its metropolitan structure backed up with the daily hustle and bustle. My artistic practice is influenced by my identity and culture as an African, being born and raised in Nigeria. My subject matter and narrative as a contemporary African artist revolves around Post-colonialism, centering on historical, social, and cultural issues that concern Africa today. My art is an activism regarding these problems and issues faced by the continent of Africa. It draws back to post-colonial setbacks that have caused tremendous distress for Africa today.  I am a mixed media artist who uses original African fabrics and newsprint as a major element in my art, the African fabrics are used to show my identity as an African and give an insight into my subject matter or narrative as it concerns issues regarding the African continent and the diaspora, the newsprint at the other hand, I use to seek texture and make social commentary. Both the fabrics and newsprint put together create a feeling of dynamism to the viewer.
