Due to a severe lifelong stutter, Julia Ponz's outgoing communication with the world has shifted from the realm of sounds to the realm of objects and matter. The search for alternative modes of expression through drawing, objects, and poetry has become the foundation of her creative practice. Her engineering education in the processing of artistic materials is complemented by a mastery of techniques in glass, metal, and jewelry making. This experience has formed a deep understanding of structure and form, which the artist translates into her current projects. Currently, Julia works primarily with acrylic on canvas and stained glass sculpture. Her works are figurative paintings with metaphorical elements, combining features of symbolism, surrealism, and neo-expressionism. Julia's work focuses on themes of emptiness, incoherence, and the absurd. She seeks to capture moments of emotional rupture, "grounding" complex experiences through concrete images while avoiding their direct exposure. In her paintings, vulnerability and strength coexist in a fragile balance. This offers the viewer a space for contemplation of that which is impossible to express in words.
